This exhibition, presented in both the galleries for Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (on view March 1 through August 17, 2003) and in the galleries for the Arts of Japan (on view March 22 through September 21, 2003), explores how Chinese pictorial themes—Buddhist iconography, landscape imagery, flower and bird subjects, and figural narratives—were selectively adopted and reinterpreted by native artists in Korea and Japan.
